Controlling the nitrogen environment for optimal Rhodomonas salina production

چکیده

Abstract The microalga Rhodomonas salina is a widely used species for rearing live feed organisms in the aquaculture market. A species-specific medium an essential step towards enhancing productivity and decreasing production costs microalgae cultivation. However, relevant aspects of composition such as nitrogen source elemental ratio have not yet been characterized this alga. This study aimed to optimize following three culture media: 1) optimal between phosphorus (N:P ratio); 2) preferred nitrogen; 3) tolerance R. free ammonia. To investigate this, we conducted series controlled laboratory experiments shake flasks. Our revealed 45% increase growth rate when N:P 15:1 was compared standard 25:1. Ammonium nitrate were equally well accepted source, however, mix ammonium resulted significant reduction. Free ammonia did affect alga at tested concentrations up 5 mg ammonia–nitrogen L −1 . We conclude that cultivation, strongly preferred, it leads rate. Further, media with single promote faster over mixed sources, may safely be since tolerates certain levels Overall, work provides insights into cultivation conditions , allowing more efficient reliable species.

The Rhodomonas salina mitochondrial genome: bacteria-like operons, compact gene arrangement and complex repeat region

To gain insight into the mitochondrial genome structure and gene content of a putatively ancestral group of eukaryotes, the cryptophytes, we sequenced the complete mitochondrial DNA of Rhodomonas salina. The 48 063 bp circular-mapping molecule codes for 2 rRNAs, 27 tRNAs and 40 proteins including 23 components of oxidative phosphorylation, 15 ribosomal proteins and two subunits of tat transloca...

Controlling the Environment in Greenhouses Used for Tomato Production

Introduction Growing tomatoes in greenhouses allows producers to grow plants at a time when it would be impossible to grow outside because of the weather. The sole purpose of a greenhouse is to maintain an environment that promotes optimum production. Solar energy from the sun provides both sunlight and heat, but growers must provide a system that maintains the optimum growing environment in th...

Non-Photochemical Quenching in Cryptophyte Alga Rhodomonas salina Is Located in Chlorophyll a/c Antennae

Photosynthesis uses light as a source of energy but its excess can result in production of harmful oxygen radicals. To avoid any resulting damage, phototrophic organisms can employ a process known as non-photochemical quenching (NPQ), where excess light energy is safely dissipated as heat. The mechanism(s) of NPQ vary among different phototrophs. Here, we describe a new type of NPQ in the organ...
